Champs again
For all the talk of Indian cricket being in the dumps (if one were to believe certain comments left on this blog) and only a money spinning machine, India has cornered the second among what I believe are the 5 crowns of Cricket globally (the other 3 being 50/50, Test cricket and the Champions Trophy). The Under 19 team played some glorious cricket to nudge out South Africa in winning the junior world cup. This is another big step in India's march toward becoming the top cricket team in the world. Of course there's a long way to go yet but yesterday offered some glimpses into the future.
The combination of a cricketing master class by SRT left the Australians floundering, misfielding, over throwing and finally folding in the face of the SRT - RS combo. If SRT displayed why he is still SRT, then Rohit Sharma was not far behind, playing some audacious strokes on the way to a match winning innings. The big disappointment was Uthappa again but one hopes he will be persisted with and will come good eventually.

This was a great match, and it is always great to watch SRT.
a super sunday to say the least. and as we speak, sir SRT is carving another masterclass into the ozz-machine..
The last posting along with its comments was very interesting reading :)..India has given australia a serious run for their money...although it seems they're not feeling gracious enough to admit it.
and as far as good ol loveable symmo and hi 1.4billion odd go- everyone loves the bully right? not because he's a great bloke but because watching him get beaten up by the underdog is the ultimate excitement of life, the time when the 'natural order' changes. The natural order changes slowly but surely away from Australia's rampant disregard for any other team. Needless to say, if the team gets up and gives some back - the boxing gloves are on:)
I agree with one of Amit's previous comments though, the behavior of some players from the Ozz team has been so utterly dissapointing- Hayden was one of my all time favorite batsmen but his crass and uneccessary behavior (not unlike kids like ourselves that played school cricket I'll admit) has shown me just how belying the composure on field is to the watching eye.
tsk tsk tsk.
tell you what. I'm watching tonights game and its 3/61, those first three wickets were a confidence destroying blow... I have a feeling this match is all India's
..and alas, that was the case..
While it was never going to swing back after Australia lost the first 3, then the next 2, I have to say the late mid order did a much better job at keeping the game tight than I expected/could have hoped for. Kumar easily deserved his stripes for this match.
very well played by India to win the finals series 2 - 0. Am certianly gracious enough to admit defeat and then some. However let's not talk about changing the order yet, Australia did also lose this series to England last year but it didn't quite topple us for the rest of the year. So we shall see how 2008 unfolds.
I do agree, Chitgo, that some of the Aussies have been very disappointing in terms of their behaviour. Hopefully things will calm down now with this fiasco, I am so sick of hearing about it, the cricket has become a soap opera.
I agree LX...the general temeperament of media on both sides has also been shocking. I don't know what to make of it except for the adage that 'controversies sell'...the fact that brilliant cricket was played will not be the reason why this series is remembered, leave alone being fondly reminisced...
The rest of this year is going to be interesting...and we wait in baited breath to see how the next installment of the hooplah (aka IPL) turns out. I've been very closely involved with the corporate side of this element thanks to my work these last few weeks and I have some predictions which I won't share just yet.
Till then, I need some calm and relaxing sport to ease the mind..fishing maybe?
who said cricket is boring?

I had the good fortune of witnessing the game in Sydney and Sachin's sublime strokeplay live. It was breathtaking! I joined a bunch of rapturous supporters in celebratory "bhangra" outside the ground at the end of the game. For the Aussies who read this and might not know what bhangra means -it is a kind of Punjabi dance which symbolises energy and fun. Harbhajan is very good at it though I'd advise him against doing so around the SCG as the Aussie players and media will probably go whining to the officials and report it as abuse. "How dare he dance like that in front of us, its so demeaning and offensive" hehe. One of the best things about this series has been the Indians taking the Aussies on their own game (a la sledging) and hammering them at it. We weren't asking for it but hey, who started it :-) Its an apt response to the "rubbish" vented out by some quarters of the Aussie cricketing fraternity all summer. The result in the finals should teach Mattie Hayden to keep his mouth shut though I'm not sure it will. Not very long ago, he said India had won next to nothing all summer. As it turns out, the test series ended India-1, Australia-1, Bucknor-1. so that was DRAWN. I love to do that and the Aussies hate it when I do :-) and the one day series did not need a 3rd final as Ponting had predicted. Only, I don't think he was predicting Australia would be cleaned up 2-0. The string of comments to the earlier post are very interesting, I know I'm lagging behind but I intend to respond to that one too in the near future. So long fellas :)
